Too hot vs cooled down on the Coolabah Cooling Mat
Why your dog pants all afternoon

Dogs can't sweat it out.

Dogs barely sweat. They pant, and they press their thin-furred belly against the coolest surface they can find. That patch of belly and paw pad is their thermal window, the one place heat leaves the body fast. It's why your dog ends up flat on the bathroom tiles. But tiles warm up to body temperature within minutes, and a fan only pushes warm air around. We read 2,699 comments from dog owners about the heat. The sentence that came up most was "I didn't know." One owner wrote: "I'd really wish I had watched this before my dog died from a heat stroke." The Coolabah Cooling Mat is built around that thermal window: an ice-silk top that's cool to the touch the moment they lie down, over a breathable core so heat doesn't pool underneath. No gel, no fridge, no power.

Why dogs love it

Cools through the belly

Ice-silk fabric is cool to the touch and draws warmth away through the belly and paw pads.

Gel-free & chew-safe

Nothing inside that can leak, burst or be swallowed. No panicked vet visits.

Car, crate, couch, kennel

Folds flat and goes anywhere. Cars turn into heat traps, even on short trips.

Machine washable

Muddy paws, drool, sand: throw it in the wash, dry in about an hour.

Coolabah vs. gel mats

Gel mats leak, puncture and go warm. Ours doesn't.

Your questions, answered honestly

Why does my pet lie on the tiles all afternoon?

It's how dogs and cats cool down. They barely sweat, so they press their thin-furred belly and paw pads against something cooler than they are. The problem: tiles, the bath and the sink warm up to body temperature within minutes, so they keep moving spot to spot. The mat gives them a cool-to-the-touch spot right where they already rest.

We only have fans. Isn't that enough?

A fan cools you by evaporating your sweat. Dogs and cats don't sweat much, so on a 40-degree day a fan mostly pushes warm air around. As one owner told us: "in high heat it's just blowing hot air." A cool surface works on their belly directly.

How do I know if my dog is too hot?

Heavy panting that doesn't settle in the shade, thick drool, bright red gums, restlessness or lagging behind on a walk are early signs. Wobbling, vomiting, collapse or confusion are an emergency: start cooling with cool (not icy) water and call your vet. Your free Heatwave Handbook for Dogs covers it step by step.

Will my pet actually use it?

Most find it on their own, because it feels cooler than the floor next to it. Put it where they already like to lie. If yours doesn't use it, you have 90 days for a full refund.

How does it work without gel or power?

The top is ice-silk fabric, which feels cool to the touch and draws warmth away from the belly and paw pads, the thermal window where dogs and cats lose heat fastest. A breathable core underneath stops heat pooling. Nothing to freeze, fill or plug in.

Can anything leak?

No. There's no gel inside, so there's nothing to puncture, leak or lick up. As with any bedding, supervise heavy chewers.

Which size should I get?

Measure your dog from nose to tail base while lying down and pick the next size up. Most people go L for breeds like Kelpies and Staffies, and XL for Labs and Goldens. Between sizes? Go up so they can stretch out. You can choose a different size for each mat in your bundle.

Does it work in the car?

Yes. Cars turn into heat traps in summer, even on short trips. The mat folds flat and fits any back seat.

How do I clean it?

Machine wash on a gentle cycle and let it air dry. It's usually dry in about an hour.

Is it worth the price?

You get two mats for $69.95, one for home and one for the car, the crate or the other pet. And you have 90 days to change your mind.

What if it doesn't work for us?
